This evening I attended a presentation by Ken Sklute, a designated Canon Explorer of Light.  His insights into knowing your gear, researching location and light, then being patient while you exploit depth was great.  His talk focused on previsualization and achieving visual depth by looking through things in the foreground of an image.  He discussed that he will find something that interests him and use it as a background and then wait for some other subject to reveal itself and place it on that background.  Always be looking, watching, adjusting, and let intuition guide you.  Here are a few links for inspiration and learning.
